Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned the mounting violence in Bahrain where government forces have killed and injured many protesters.

On Friday, Mehmanparast also deplored the silence of regional countries and international community over the suppression of peaceful protests in Bahrain.

Western powers and international bodies must stop contradictory attitude and double standard policies toward the developments in the region, he said.

He emphasized that the presence of foreign forces in Bahrain would not resolve the crisis in the country.

On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded Bahrain to assist the government in Manama to quash peaceful protests in the country.

The Iranian spokesperson expressed hope the Bahraini government would exercise more restraint, avoid violent acts and release political prisoners to build confidence.
Bahrain has been hit by a wave of anti-regime protests since mid-February, 2011.

Dozens of demonstrators have been killed and hundreds of others wounded in the popular uprising in the Persian Gulf nation.
